Configuring the firewall for Windows
You only need to follow these steps if you only use a laptop/PC. If you use a router, you do not need to set up the firewall of your laptop/PC!
Depending on your browser and operating system, a security warning may appear during login. This is because if you enter tagesschau.de as your address, you will not get tagesschau.de as a website, but the login page. In this case you can ignore the warning and continue anyway.
You will have to log in again after each restart or standby of your computer. Only after you have logged in other services (Email, Skype, Spotify, etc.) can use the internet.
If you see the login page every two minutes you have to configure your firewall. Usually this is necessary for most Windows Operation Systems.
-
Access the Windows 7 or 10 Menu or the Windows 8 Modern UI (Start page)
-
Search for the Control Panel and start it.
-
Change the view (View-by) in the upper-right to „Small Icons“.
-
Select „Administrative View“ and then „Windows-Firewall with advanced Security“
-
-
Select “Inbound Rules” and search for a Rule called “File and Printer Sharing (EchoRequest – ICMPv4-IN)”. There should be three of them.
-
Right click each Rule, select “Properties”. Under the Tab ‘General’ select “Allow the connection”. Under the tab “Scope”, select “Any IP address” for Local and Remote.
-
Your Firewall is now properly configured. If you use any 3rd Party Firewall or Antivirus you might need to configure them as well.
